216 Journalists Killed Across The World In 2020

Two Hundred and Sixteen (216) journalists have been killed across the globe in 2020 from January 1 to December 15.

Some of the Journalists were killed whiles other died from COVID-19. According to the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) database most these journalists were killed after exposing corruption in relation to various governments in their respective countries.

The statistics include, Mexico 5, Afghanistan 4, Syria 4, Philippines 3, Honduras 2 and India 2. The rest are, Iraq 2, Bangladesh 1, Barbados 1, Colombia 1, Iran 1, Nigeria 1, Paraguay 1, Somalia 1 and Yemen 1. 

However, since 1992 to December 15, 2020, a total of 1395 journalists have been killed.

The Geneva-based Press Emblem Campaign (PEC) has announced that 186 journalists have died from COVID-19 in 35 countries since the outbreak of the pandemic late 2019 in China.

 Latin America remains the most affected, with at least 93 journalists killed by the virus, ahead of 34 victims in Asia, Europe 26, Africa 19, and North America 14.
