Security Expert, Adib Saani is calling for a mental check-up of police personnel in the country.

The calls come in the wave of the death of three police personnel through suicide. Three police officers within the last month have committed suicide.

The first was the Jomoro Municipal Police Commander Supt Cyprian Zenge, who shot himself at his residence. Constable Eugene Yelnona of the National Protection Unit also committed suicide in Accra whiles on duty.  Just last week, DSP Asiam Divine Yao who works in Ashaiman also committed suicide.

Following these happenings, Adib Saani is calling for mental check-up of the police personnel in the country.

“The Police Council should ensure as a matter of national emergency that all the over 30,000 police officers across the length and breadth of the country are subjected to psychological or mental health evaluation.”

Globally it is that 800,000 people die from suicide every year that is twice the number of people who died from homicide.
