Bishop Elisha Salifu Amoako and his wife, Mouha Amoako, have been arrested, the Ghana Police Service confirmed in a statement on Tuesday, October 15, 2024.
Their arrest follows an accident caused by their 16-year-old son, Elrad Salifu Amoako, which resulted in the deaths of two people. The accident occurred at East Legon in Accra on Saturday, October 12, 2024.
According to the police, Elrad and his parents are currently in custody to assist with the investigation.
The police statement detailed that on October 12, 2024, Elrad, driving a Jaguar SUV with one other occupant, crashed into a 4×4 Acura vehicle driven by Joseph Ackah, with four other passengers, at Mensah Wood Street, East Legon. Both vehicles caught fire and were completely destroyed.
The statement further revealed that of the five individuals in the Acura, three were rescued, while two—12-year-olds Justine Agbenu and Maame Dwomoh—tragically lost their lives.
The two rescued victims who sustained minor injuries have since been treated and discharged, while the third remains in the hospital receiving medical care.
Elrad and the other occupant of the Jaguar were also rescued and are currently hospitalized.
