Daddy Lumba’s ‘Mpempem Do Me’ song featured on King Charles III’s Commonwealth Day playlist

Veteran Ghanaian Highlife musician Daddy Lumba has gained international recognition as his hit song ‘Mpempem Do Me’ earns a spot on King Charles III’s specially curated playlist for Commonwealth Day, celebrated on Monday, March 10, 2025.

The popular 2008 track holds the seventh position on the 17-song playlist, which blends timeless classics with contemporary global hits from legendary artistes like Beyoncé, Bob Marley, Diana Ross, and Grace Jones.

Curated in collaboration with Apple Music, the playlist showcases the rich cultural diversity of the Commonwealth, featuring iconic tracks such as Could You Be Loved by Bob Marley & The Wailers, My Boy Lollipop by Millie Small, The Loco-Motion by Kylie Minogue, The Very Thought of You by Al Bowlly, La Vie En Rose by Grace Jones, and Love Me Again by Raye.

Notably, the selection highlights African and Asian influences, including Daddy Lumba’s Mpempem Do Me, KANTE by Nigerian star Davido featuring Fave, Anta Permana by Malaysian sensation Siti Nurhaliza, and The Click Song (Qongqothwane) by South African legend Miriam Makeba.

Other standout additions include E Te Iwi E (Call to the People) by Dame Kiri Te Kanawa and the iconic Crazy In Love by Beyoncé featuring Jay-Z.

Since its upload to Daddy Lumba’s official YouTube channel four years ago, Mpempem Do Me has amassed over 1.4 million views. The song, showcasing his signature smooth lyrical style, reflects on love, appreciation, and his relationship with both supporters and critics.
