A good song can be a hit even without a danceable beat – Mr Drew
Ghanaian artiste Mr Drew has shared his perspective on what makes a song successful, challenging the notion that danceability is the key to a hit track.
While some believe that songs with catchy dance moves gain traction more easily, the ‘Case’ singer argues that quality music is the real determining factor.
“I don’t agree that danceable songs automatically blow up. The song has to be good first,” Mr Drew stated in an interview with Amansan Krakye on Property FM.
“If a song isn’t good, how do people even dance to it in the first place? The priority should be making a great song.”
He cited Fameye’s Very Soon as an example, noting that the track became a hit without a dance challenge.
“Very Soon was one of the biggest songs last year, and it wasn’t because it was danceable—it was simply a good song,” he explained. “If the song is great, everything else will follow.”
