She loved music, but it wasn’t her passion – JMJ opens up about Kaakie’s departure from Xtra Large Music

Ghanaian music producer JMJ has broken his silence on the much-speculated exit of his former signee, Kaakie, from the Xtra Large Music record label, finally addressing the lingering rumors and giving fans a candid look behind the scenes.

Speaking on Daybreak Hitz with Andy Dosty, JMJ offered rare insight into the factors that led to their professional split, emphasizing that the decision stemmed not from controversy, but from Kaakie’s personal stance toward the music industry.

He was quick to distinguish between talent and passion. “Kaakie loved music, but she wasn’t passionate about it,” JMJ explained, highlighting a fundamental difference that ultimately shaped their journey together. Despite her vocal prowess and magnetic presence, her commitment to a long-term music career was never solid.

Recalling a telling moment, JMJ referred to a radio interview that underscored the absence of bad blood between them. “I once heard Abeiku Santana ask Kaakie on radio if he had ‘chopped’ her money or done anything bad to her but she said no.”

He then delved into the deeper reasons behind Kaakie’s departure, pointing to her hectic lifestyle as a major factor. Balancing university education—particularly in a demanding field like nursing—with a budding music career placed her under immense pressure.

“Kaakie didn’t have time for music but she was soo talented that, just 10 minutes in the studio would blow your mind,” JMJ revealed. “So she had little time, and don’t forget, she was also in school. She was in Uni at the time, and nursing is not an easy course. So she was balancing the two, which I understood.”

Despite her undeniable talent, JMJ reiterated that Kaakie never truly envisioned herself as a career musician.

“But the truth of the matter is that Kaakie loved music, but she didn’t see music as a long-term career that she was going to pursue,” he added.

JMJ’s reflections paint a portrait of an artist who possessed extraordinary ability but chose a different path—one shaped by practical commitments and personal priorities rather than public drama.
