From fame to faith: Yaw Siki reveals the voice that changed his life
Once the face of Ghana’s hiplife scene, Yaw Siki has reemerged — not with a new single, but with a new spirit. After turning his back on secular music to walk a path of faith, the former hitmaker is now offering a rare glimpse into the silent battles behind his bold transformation.
Joining the GTV Breakfast Show, Yaw Siki peeled back the curtain on his pivot from celebrity to spirituality, describing a journey marked by emptiness, resolve, and quiet revelation.
“I remember when I had just transformed and started following the Lord Jesus. While waiting on Him, some people called and wanted me on a song and at a show, but I had to deny myself — even though I had nothing at the time,” he shared.
Known for his infectious anthem Wopɛ Dodo, Yaw Siki recalled how, even as the lights shone brighter and his profile soared, a void began to open beneath the surface.
“Initially, it was fun, pleasurable, and I was achieving the dream. But then I became empty while I was there. Two years after Wopɛ Dodo, I felt so empty in my room — there was no joy.”
That void, however, became fertile ground for a deeper calling — one that didn’t come with applause, but a whisper.
“And in that emptiness, there was that small voice leading, urging, or inspiring me to come to the Lord and to serve Him.”
Since he answered that call, Yaw Siki hasn’t looked back. The stage is gone, replaced by sermons; the fame, traded for faith.
Asked whether he misses the world he left behind, his answer was as decisive as his departure: “Not at all.”
