‘I’ve never been single, not even once’ – Akuapem Poloo on her dating life

Akuapem Poloo claims she has never lived a single day as a single woman, and she’s not chasing a wedding dress just to check off a box. In a recent interview on Okay FM with Nana Romeo, the Ghanaian actress and socialite (born Rosemond Alade Brown) shared why marriage isn’t at the top of her priority list and why dating continues to suit her better.

“I’ve never been single in my life. The moment there’s a breakup, I’m already with someone else,” she said, unapologetically.

With a history of seven relationships, one of which lasted eight years, Akuapem Poloo has always found herself in love. Now a mother of two, including a newborn daughter, she says her romantic life is thriving even without a marriage certificate.

“Dating is sweeter than marriage. I’m not saying marriage is bad, but I prefer dating. Let’s stay together like a married couple, without the stress of actually getting married.”

For her, the appeal lies in the energy of a relationship unburdened by marital expectations.

“In dating, there’s excitement, there’s competition. But once that ring goes on your finger, it brings stress. Things change, people become complacent.”

Poloo didn’t shy away from addressing the emotional and societal toll marriage often places on women. She pointed out the uneven aftermath of divorce, especially in communities where women are scrutinized more harshly than men.

“This is why many women don’t leave their husbands even when they’re being abused. Men move on easily, but women are expected to wait for someone who will accept their past.”

Although she’s open to marriage one day, Poloo emphasized that any such step would happen on her own terms — and in alignment with her faith.

“I pray Allah blesses us with a family,” she said. “But I won’t be surprised if I never marry. I’m okay with that.”

She revealed her partner, the father of her daughter, is currently working overseas in anticipation of a possible wedding.

“He left to work because wedding takes money. Plans are underway, but it will only happen when he’s ready.”

Faith and personal growth have played a strong role in her evolving outlook. Since embracing Islam three years ago, she’s leaned into a more reflective lifestyle, one mirrored by her mother’s recent conversion. Her mother now goes by Aishatu.

Despite her bold public persona, Poloo says she’s grown more measured in how she moves through life, especially under the watchful eye of her current partner.

“I’m under control now,” she stated while laughing. “Something is controlling me.”
