Shatta Wale offers free Shaxi rides to Ghanaian celebrities and assures drivers will be fully compensated
Shatta Wale is making headlines again, this time not with music, but with a bold move to elevate his ride-hailing business, Shaxi. The Ghanaian music icon and entrepreneur has pledged free rides for any well-known celebrity who hops into a Shaxi vehicle, with the company covering both the fare and the driver’s pay.
“Every known celebrity in Ghana who takes Shaxi for the experience will be exempt from payment, as Shaxi will cover the cost and compensate its drivers,” Shatta Wale shared on social media.
His announcement, positioned as a mix of promotion and appreciation, signals a savvy brand-building effort that also doubles as a tribute to Ghana’s entertainment influencers. While the initiative could boost visibility for Shaxi through celebrity participation, it also underscores Shatta Wale’s ongoing promise to treat drivers fairly.
The Shaxi project, short for “Shatta Taxi”, was introduced in 2021 with the aim of creating employment opportunities for Ghana’s youth and providing a locally-owned alternative in the country’s expanding ride-hailing sector. Since its launch, Shatta Wale has used his platform to promote Shaxi not just as a business, but as a tool for social impact.
The celebrity ride exemption is already generating buzz online. For some, it’s a calculated marketing move. For others, it reflects Shatta Wale’s recognition of the entertainment industry’s power in shaping public sentiment and driving trends.
