Black Sherif’s 2025 BET nomination sparks emotional high school flashback
For Ghanaian artiste Black Sherif, his 2025 BET Awards nomination wasn’t just another milestone; it was a powerful reminder of dreams once whispered during his high school days.
In a recent interview, the chart-topping musician shared how the news of his latest nomination stirred a deep sense of nostalgia. The moment began with a familiar voice.
“My brother called me,” Black Sherif divulged.
That simple phone call quickly unlocked a flood of memories, late-night conversations, lofty ambitions, and teenage daydreams of global success.
“You know, two years before this, we won the Best International Award at BET Hip Hop. And when he told me, it’s like, my mind just went back to high school. We used to talk about stuff like this. When we graduate high school, what are we going to do, the type of videos we’re going to shoot, this, in case, maybe BET,” he stated.
Now nominated in the ‘Best International Act’ category, Black Sherif finds himself among a dynamic slate of international stars, including Rema and Ayra Starr from Nigeria, Tyla from South Africa, Uncle Waffles from Eswatini, Any Gabrielly and Luanna from Brazil, Joé Dwèt Filé and SDM from France, and the UK’s Basky and Ezra Collective.
This year’s nomination builds on his earlier success, winning the 2023 BET Hip Hop Award for Best International Flow, a breakthrough that marked his arrival on the global stage.
