Kofi Adjorlolo reveals acting was never the plan: ‘Music was my first love’
Veteran Ghanaian actor Kofi Adjorlolo has revealed that the silver screen was never part of his original script. Long before becoming one of Ghana’s most recognisable film figures, he was chasing a different dream; one set to the rhythm of music.
Appearing on THE LIZ SHOW with host Elizabeth Essuman, Adjorlolo indicated that his true calling was music, and not the acting career that later defined him.
“I love music so much that as of 8 years old, I could play the trumpet so well,” he recalled. His musical talent opened doors to perform with African music legends like Gyedu Blay Ambolley and Sir Victor Uwaifo. “I could play with legendary musicians like Gyedu Blay Ambolley and Sir Victor Uwaifo,” he added, stressing how deeply music shaped his early life.
Despite finding fame on screen, Kofi Adjorlolo didn’t shy away from criticizing the state of the film industry in Ghana. He voiced serious concerns about the lack of structure, support, and protections for actors.
“Honestly, I wouldn’t encourage my children to go into acting. The current situation in Ghana isn’t encouraging, attractive, or enabling for young ones to thrive in this field. Do we even have insurance to back our actors and actresses?” he questioned.
