Kwaw Kese calls on Ghanaians to rise above partisan politics after supporting GH¢1 fuel levy
Ghanaian rapper Kwaw Kese has publicly supported the newly introduced GH¢1 petroleum levy by the NDC government, framing it as a fair and practical step toward national development.
In a video shared Instagram page, he drew a sharp contrast between the current levy, nicknamed the “Dumsor Levy” and the E-Levy that was implemented under the previous NPP administration. According to him, the new levy is a more sensible and beneficial approach.
“The price of fuel has been reduced from GH¢16 to GH¢12 per liter. Which means he has dashed Ghanaians GH¢4. And if he is now saying that, give GH¢1 out of the GH¢4…I think it makes sense,” Kwaw Kese explained.
He stressed that Ghanaians must resist the urge to politicize every policy, especially when such initiatives could strengthen the nation’s future.
“I know some people will make politics out of this. But I think it makes sense if we want to build a great nation. I will advise us to put the politics aside and work towards how we can develop the country,” the outspoken rapper stated.
Kwaw Kese argued that the GH¢1 levy isn’t an excessive demand from the public, and given recent fuel price reductions, it amounts to a manageable contribution.
His remarks was on the heels of the passage of the Energy Sector Levy (Amendment) Bill, 2025, which enforces a GH¢1 charge on every liter of petroleum products sold. The revenue is expected to help clear longstanding energy sector debts and support reliable electricity generation across Ghana.
