Veteran Ghanaian coach Annor Walker passes on

Coach Annor Walker

Ghanaian football has lost one of its most respected tacticians. Former Black Galaxies boss and Accra Great Olympics coach Annor Walker passed away.

He reportedly died at his Accra residence on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, after a brief illness. News of his death has been met with grief across the football fraternity, where he was celebrated for his discipline, tactical acumen, and enduring influence.

Walker’s coaching journey stretched across some of Ghana’s biggest clubs. He held a CAF License A and left a lasting mark at Great Olympics, Nania FC, Kpando Hearts of Lions, and Berekum Chelsea. Among his many achievements, none stands out more than leading Nania FC to a famous 2011 MTN FA Cup triumph over giants Asante Kotoko at the Accra Sports Stadium, a result that stunned the football world and secured his place in history.

In 2020, Walker made a high-profile return to Great Olympics, where despite health challenges, he built a formidable squad that lifted the club into the top ranks of the Ghana Premier League. His presence on the sidelines, often against personal odds, reflected a coach deeply committed to his craft.

His work also extended to the international stage. As head coach of the Black Galaxies, Walker guided the team to the 2023 African Nations Championship in Algeria, further reinforcing his reputation as a leader capable of inspiring players beyond the domestic scene.

More than his tactical brilliance, Walker is remembered for spotting raw potential and nurturing the next generation of football talent. Those he mentored continue to carry forward the lessons he imparted, ensuring that his influence endures long after his demise.
