“They Doff Their Hats to Us” – D Cryme Talks About Respect From Current Top Artistes

Ghanaian artiste Darlington Agyekum, well-known as D Cryme, has revealed that many of today’s social media-savvy artistes continue to show admiration and respect for the early trailblazers who paved the way in the music industry.

In an interview with Nana Romeo on Okay FM, the ‘Kill Me Shy’ hitmaker dismissed the notion that younger artistes disregard their predecessors, stressing that private interactions often reveal a different reality from what fans see online.

“I don’t compare myself to anyone. Even those we are being compared to most of the time, they doff their hat and give us our flowers when they see us,” he said.

He explained that much of the mutual respect within the music community happens away from cameras, which is why the public rarely witnesses such moments.

“The fact that cameras are not on doesn’t mean they don’t appreciate our crafts. The ones that we revere respect us when we meet one-on-one. Most of them even admit that they’re inspired by us, but people don’t see that part because those moments are not captured,” he stated.

D Cryme cautioned fans against letting social media narratives distort their perception of the music scene, noting that digital fame can often overshadow the genuine bonds and artistic influence shared among musicians.

“When you allow social media to deceive you, you will end up where you’re not supposed to be. I appreciate the number of followers I have, and they are organic,” he shared.

Reflecting on his rise to fame, D Cryme emphasized that his career flourished long before social media became a driving force in music promotion.

“During my era, there was no social media but my songs went global. We are in the social media era but yet some artistes’ songs don’t trend despite the fact that they have the opportunity to make good use of social media. So, it won’t be fair to compare me to current artistes. People still jam to my music, so I can’t compare myself with any artistes,” he further stated.
