I Thought Brazilian Hair Was for Witches – Gospel Singer Nhyira Betty Shares Her Style Awakening

Ghanaian gospel singer Nhyira Betty has opened up about how her views on fashion have significantly shifted, revealing she once believed Brazilian hair was linked to witchcraft.

During a recent interview on Okay FM, the ‘Barima Ena’ singer reflected on her transformation, emphasizing the importance of being adaptable in the music industry. “If you’re a musician, you have to be dynamic. Follow the trends and the era, see what others are doing, and learn. At first, I didn’t like dressing up,” she noted.

She recalled a pivotal moment when a woman who facilitated her trip abroad gifted her a Brazilian wig, a gesture she initially rejected due to her beliefs at the time. “A woman who helped me travel abroad bought a Brazilian wig for me, but I said it’s witches’ hair, so I didn’t use it. The woman took me to a shop to buy dresses, but I told her that if I wore those kinds of clothes, I wouldn’t go to heaven, so I didn’t take them,” she confessed.

However, attending public events broadened her outlook. She eventually realized her misconceptions and made a personal decision to embrace modern fashion. “I went to a couple of events and realized I’d been mistaken. No one even told me to change my lifestyle, I changed on my own, and I always thank God for the life of that woman,” she said.

Nhyira Betty stressed that a gospel minister’s appearance plays a vital role in connecting with others.

“When you’re in ministry, you deal with people, and your appearance should be pleasing to them,” the Ghanaian gospel singer stated.
