The Bono Regional Police Command has successfully rescued a 30-year-old woman who was abducted in Berekum, Bono Region, and has since been reunited with her family.

According to a police statement signed by Chief Inspector Thomas Akeelah, Public Relations Officer of the regional command, the victim, Millicent Fosua, was freed following an intelligence-led operation. The statement confirmed that no arrests have been made, though investigations are ongoing.

The incident dates back to October 29, 2025, when the victim and her husband, Samuel Amartey Laryea, attended a funeral at Kyeremasu in Dormaa Central. Days later, on November 3, Laryea received a disturbing call from an unidentified person claiming to have kidnapped his wife and demanding GHC12,000 as ransom.

The statement said Laryea initially transferred GHC2,000 via mobile money, but his wife was not released, prompting him to alert the police.

The Police Intelligence Directorate then carried out a covert operation that led to the rescue of the victim in Berekum. The statement revealed that during her ordeal, the kidnappers assaulted and threatened her while confiscating her phone and forcing her to divulge her husband’s contact and mobile money PIN.
