Nana Ama McBrown Breaks Silence on Divorce, Says Split Was Peaceful and Mutual

Nana Ama McBrown and Maxwell Mensah

Award-winning actress and television personality Nana Ama McBrown has publicly confirmed the end of her marriage to Maxwell Mensah, stating that the separation was reached calmly and without hostility.

In an exclusive conversation with Cookie Tee on Newsday on TV3, McBrown addressed the long-rumored split for the first time, explaining that the decision to divorce was jointly made after both partners felt the marriage had run its course. She emphasized that there was no fallout or animosity between them.

According to McBrown, the process was handled with maturity, even though her former husband’s family was initially hesitant about the decision. She stressed that the final agreement was mutual and respectful. “It was a peaceful agreement between the two of us,” she noted, adding that there was no bitterness involved.

The actress made it clear that the end of their marriage did not sever their bond. She described her relationship with Mensah as warm and cooperative, revealing that they remain close friends and are fully aligned when it comes to raising their daughter.

“We still talk, we call each other all the time. We are best of friends. Our divorce didn’t happen on a bad note,” she said. “He takes care of his daughter, pays her school fees, and is very responsible, so we are cool. It’s just that both of us were tired of the marriage and decided to go our separate ways.”

McBrown also disclosed that her ties with Mensah’s extended family remain intact, particularly her relationship with his mother. She said family interactions have continued naturally on both sides.

“I visit his family, and he does the same with mine. I talk to his children and even go to his mum’s shop at Makola to buy lace or anything I want,” she disclosed.

Addressing speculation surrounding the breakdown of the marriage, McBrown firmly dismissed claims of abuse or mistreatment. She described Mensah as a gentleman and underscored that respect defined their 12 years together.

“The marriage simply couldn’t work,” she said. “There was no violence or maltreatment involved.”
