George Quaye has called out Ghanaian musicians who struggle to file nominations for the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA), describing it as unacceptable.
The former Charterhouse Head of Communications criticized artistes who remain unfamiliar with the nomination process despite the award scheme’s long-standing presence.
Speaking on Hitz FM, Quaye said it is embarrassing for musicians to complain on radio about the process when they have made no effort to understand it.
“If I were a musician, I’d be ashamed to sit on the radio and say I don’t know how to submit forms for the TGMAs. Should I come to your house to show you how? The scheme has existed for 25 years—if you have any interest, you’ll figure it out,” he stated.
George Quaye advised artists to seek assistance if they cannot handle the nomination process themselves.
“If you can’t do it, get someone to help. But to go on social media and claim ignorance is shameful. At worst, drive to Charterhouse—it’s not in the south of France. There are plenty of people who can assist you.
“This only tells me that you are not serious about being part of the scheme. If you want to be involved but won’t put in the effort, don’t even call yourself a musician,” he added.
As expected, some Ghanaian musicians voiced their frustrations following the announcement of the nominees for the 26th TGMA.
