Church Shouldn’t Decide Your Partner – Rev. Obofour Tells Singles

Rev. Obofour

Rev. Obofour has urged single people to take full control of their relationship choices and avoid letting church pressure dictate who they marry.

The Ghanaian preacher, known privately as Kwaku Agyei Antwi, addressed his congregation in a video circulating online, warning that some believers rush into marriage under religious influence and later end up unhappy.

He argued that a number of divorces linked to Christian marriages could be traced to couples not taking enough time to understand each other before committing.

“The church tells you that, before marriage, you shouldn’t talk too much or get to know each other deeply. But one painful thing in this world is allowing the church to lead you into marrying someone you don’t love. Don’t ever do that.

“Marriage is not about money; it’s about companionship—being with someone you can communicate with. Never be in a hurry to get married,” he said.

He went on to suggest that churches often do not have a full picture of the private lives or real personalities of their members.

In his view, some individuals present a different character within the church setting in order to attract potential partners, only for their true behaviour to surface after marriage.

“Why is it that when the church leads people into marriage, some of these unions don’t last? It’s because they don’t truly know us or our character. They don’t know your real nature.

“The church may not know your personal lifestyle or preferences. So when you are matched with someone who doesn’t understand your true self, the marriage may not last,” Rev. Obofour added.
