Award-winning Ghanaian artiste Black Sherif has opened up about why he chose to split the cash prize from one of his wins at the 27th Telecel Ghana Music Awards with fellow musicians AratheJay and Gonaboy.
During an appearance on 3FM on May 13, 2026, Black Sherif said the gesture came from a strong spiritual and creative connection he feels with the two rising artistes.
According to him, that connection existed even before they met face to face.
“I know Arathejay and Gonaboy. When I say I know them, that’s on the spiritual side. Even when I didn’t know them personally, the first time hearing their music, my soul knew them,” he said.
The musician explained that certain artistes naturally carry the same musical spirit and creative direction, making it easy to identify with them.
“There are some people, when you listen to their music, you realise you’re from the same tribe spiritually in music,” he stated.
Black Sherif added that once their friendship grew beyond music, sharing the prize money felt like the right thing to do and something he believes can encourage growth within the industry.
“Then I got to know them personally and we have personal relationships. It felt right and it felt progressive. I realised we need stuff like that,” he stressed.
