“I Was Young and Hungry” – Kwesi Arthur Revisits Ground Up Chale Controversy

Ghanaian rapper Kwesi Arthur has reflected on the controversy surrounding his fallout with Ground Up Chale, admitting that a lack of legal guidance and youthful inexperience played a major role in the situation.

In an interview with Kafui Dey, the rapper explained that he entered the agreement at a time when he was eager to succeed but did not fully understand the details involved.

“I signed an agreement when I was quite young. I didn’t understand certain things. I was young and hungry and didn’t have the right legal counsel around me,” he said.

Kwesi Arthur said the experience eventually became emotionally draining long before the public became aware of the disagreement. According to him, speaking openly about it was his way of drawing attention to issues he had quietly dealt with behind closed doors for an extended period.

“Like I’d already gone through the process and the emotional toll and everything for a long time, you know. So I feel like with me putting that out there, I was just trying to put a stop to certain things that were going on behind the scenes,” he noted.

Although he acknowledged the matter remains unresolved publicly, the rapper declined to share additional details, explaining that the case is currently before the courts.

Beyond addressing his own experience, Kwesi Arthur said he hopes younger musicians can learn from what happened to him. He stressed the need for fairness in music industry deals and encouraged upcoming artistes to seek proper legal advice before signing any contracts.

“I want to use my voice and my story as a lesson for other artistes and stakeholders in the industry, to preach fairness.

“And for other artistes who are coming after me and are of my standing as well, to seek the right legal counsel when going into anything like that,” he further stated.
