A police officer with the National Protection Unit has allegedly committed suicide.
According to First News sources, the deceased, Constable Eugene Yelnona shot himself while on guard duty on Monday .
The deceased was part of a joint team on duty at the Ridge residence of Togo’s opposition Leader Sylvio Olympio.
The Constable Yelnona becomes the second police officer to commit suicide less than a week in the country.
Over the weekend, the Jomoro Municipal Police Commander in the Western Region, DSP Zeprain Zenge also committed suicide.
The Director of Public Affairs at the Ghana Police, Superintendent Mrs Sheila Kessie Abayie-Buckman says investigation has commenced into the incident.
” Investigation has already commenced to unravel the circumstances of his death the National CID Crime Scene and Homicide Teams having already visited the scene of the crime. The family of the Police Officer has also been informed of the death. ”
