Sandema: Ex-Soldier And A Chief Arrested For Attempted Robbery

Police in Sandema, capital of the Builsa North Municipality, have arrested a former military officer, and a dismissed staff of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) over an alleged robbery attack.

The suspect, Agriwen Owen, who is also a chief of Balansa, a community in the Builsa North Municipality, was arrested at the wee hours of Monday, October 5, 2021 at Azim-Azim on the Sandema-Chuchuluga road after he refused to adhere to signals by a police night patrol team to stop and attempted to bolt away with an unregistered motorbike.

An immediate search conducted on him following his arrest led to the retrieval of a pump action gun, seven (7) live cartridges and one (1) empty cartridge, a jack knife, a handcuff (1) and a talisman.

A subsequent search conducted in his room also led to the retrieval of an ash police torchlight, one empty cartridge, a police reflector and a piece of police material with the inscription; Ghana.

He is said to have gone out for operations that night, attacking a victim with a pump action gun in attempt to rob the victim and was returning when the police accosted him leading to his arrest.

The incident was later reported to the police by the victim.

Mr. Owen, according to police sources, had worked with the Ghana Armed Forces and later with NADMO but was dismissed by both institutions for misconduct.

The police, in a press statement, assured the general public of robust measures to deal with criminal activities in the region especially violent crimes and called on the general public to assist the administration with relevant information that will lead to the arrest and prosecution of perpetrators.
