Somanya: ECG Disconnects Power At University of Environment and Sustainable Development For Owing GH₵917K
The Electricity Company of Ghana has disconnected power at the University of Environment and Sustainable Development at Somanya in the Eastern Region for owing GH₵917,000.00 cedis.
The university has been in total darkness for the past one week which is affecting academic work in the institution.
The debt of GH₵ 917,000.00 is an amount accrued since the inception of the institution three years ago.
Following the disconnection the Management of the University paid an amount of GH₵ 50,000.00 but the ECG did not reconnect them.
First News has also gathered that the University is yet to receive the commencement seed capital for the running of the university.
The disconnection exercise by the ECG is to ensure that its customers who owe them pay their bills.
The Electricity Company of Ghana Tema Region has disconnected power to a total of 310 customers in the Eastern Region for engaging in illegal connections and some also piling up debt.
Efforts to get the authorities of the institution to speak on the issue have been unsuccessful.
