Bono East:Over 300 People Rendered Homeless At Miawani After Rainstorm Hit Community

Over 300 people have been rendered homeless and several houses destroyed at Miawani an Island community in the Pru East District of the Bono East Region  after a heavy rainstorm hit the community Thursday night.

The only basic school in the community was not spared by the storm. Pupils in the community have to abandon school on Friday because of the incident.

The Chief of the Community, Nana Twumasi Ankrah VIII is calling for support.

“We are appealing to all Ghanaians to come to our aid. The only school constructed by Dr Kwabena Donkor is destroyed. Our appeal to individuals and NADMO to come to our aid.”

Some of the affected persons have been speaking to the news team.

Elijah Okomonkwe Jnr said, “Yesterday rainstorm hit the Miawani community, we have never seen such a storm before. It has destroyed so many things here, it ripped off the roofs . Our documents have been destroyed as well.”

Yaw Donkor on his part said,” Yesterday between 6pm to 7 pm there was a heavy storm in the area that ripped off all our roofing sheets. As we speak we do not know where to sleep. We are appealing to the Government to come to our aid by providing us with roofing sheets.”

Efforts to get the District Chief Executive for Pru East,Alhaji Abdulai Adams to speak on the incident were unsuccessful.
