Body Of Missing Ghanaian Swimmer Found In Surf At Rehoboth Beach

Authorities in Rehoboth Beach have located the body of a Maryland man who went missing while swimming over the Labor Day holiday weekend.

Richard A. Boateng, 31, of Savage, MD, was last seen in the ocean surf off the beach in the area of Rehoboth Avenue on Sunday around 5:45 p.m.

Boateng’s body was found deceased on the beach in the North Shores community in the area of Ocean Drive & Farview Road on Monday.

Members of the Rehoboth Beach Patrol, Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Department, U.S. Coast Guard, Delaware State Police Aviation Unit, DNREC Division of Fish and Wildlife and the Rehoboth Beach Police Department all participated in the joint search of the water and beach Sunday night into Monday.

On Monday morning, officials responded to a sighting of a human body in the surf. Paramedics identified the body as Boateng’s, and he was pronounced dead on scene.

A death investigation is being conducted by the Rehoboth Beach Police and the Division of Forensic Science. Officials say no foul play is suspected.
