NPP Running Mate: Nana Gee Endorses Napo

Former Constituency Youth Organizer for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Wenchi constituency of the Bono Region, Richard Kwadwo Adu, commonly known as Nana Gee, has thrown his support behind the Minister of Energy and Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, affectionately known as Napo, as the ideal candidate to team up with the NPP’s Flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, in the upcoming Presidential and Parliamentary elections.

According to Adu, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh holds a special place among the party’s grassroots, having empowered numerous NPP supporters nationwide and even beyond the borders.

Nana Gee, an aspirant for the position of NPP constituency Chairman in Wenchi for 2023, lauded Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh as a figure respected across political affiliations. He praised his astuteness in the political arena, noting his accessibility, selflessness, and dedication to serving party members of all ages.

Speaking to the media following a visit to the late Professor Kofi Abrefah Busia’s tomb in Wenchi, where libations were poured by Senior Linguist Okyeame Nketiah to seek ancestral support for Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh’s potential candidacy as Dr. Bawumia’s running mate, Nana Gee emphasized Dr. Prempeh’s significant contributions to both the education and energy sectors.

He highlighted the transformative reforms brought about during Dr. Prempeh’s tenure as Minister of Education, as well as his pivotal role in ending the energy crisis, known as “Dumsor.”

“Bawumia-Napo ticket would be instrumental in securing victory for the NPP in breaking the eight-year cycle of political transitions.”

Profile of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh

 Matthew Opoku Prempeh,born 23 May 1968 is the current Energy Minister of Ghana.

As a Ghana parliamentarian, he represents Manhyia South in Kumasi, formerly representing Manhyia. He was first elected to parliament in 2008 and is a member of the New Patriotic Party.

In 2016, he was re-elected with 35,958 votes, or 87.17% of the votes cast in the district.

He was born on 23 may 1968. Prempeh studied Human Biology and Medicine at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, later continuing post-graduate studies at the Netherlands Institute of Health Sciences and the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.

Prior to parliament, he served as CEO of Keyedmap Security Services Limited from 2004 to 2009 and as a member of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of the United Kingdom from 1999 to 2003. He is also a medical doctor/ health work.
