Food caterers In Bono Region cry Over Delayed Payment Of Arrears

Some caterers under the Ghana School Feeding programme in the Bono Region are crying over delayed payment of their arrears after working for many months.

Ghana school feeding caterers are losing a lot due to non-payment of their arrears.

The poor caterers are lamenting as well as running for a haven as creditors do not give them a single chance of rest.

One of them speaking to First News on condition anonymity said she is under pressure because of the delayed payment of their arrears.

She complained that they are currently cooking for the third consecutive time without any payment.

“The breadwinners of several family members are currently undergoing stress for non-payment of their arrears since the third term of last year’s academic year.”

These women have credited foodstuffs from stores and owners of the stores chase them daily for their monies without them fulfilling their promises.

“The worst part of it is that Ghana’s school feeding secretariat also put pressure on them to cook without knowing how they manage to raise funds for the project,” she noted.

The women affirmed that three out of sixteen regions have received their third term of last year’s payment since December leaving them wondering when their turn will be due.

Besides, if the payment is even affected due to its long standing, the money will be used to defray not even all but part of their debts owed creditors. They remain the same and struggle again to feed their families since they have entered a contract tantamount to shackles around one’s neck.

They are therefore appealing to the president, Nana Addo, to plead and ask the minister to pay them as soon as possible as many are suffering in the hands of creditors which is killing them slowly.

Efforts to get the authorities at the Ghana Food Feeding secretariat to get their side of the story were unsuccessful.
