Oti Region: Kete-Krachi Residents Urge NEDCo to Improve Power Supply
Nana Mprah Besemuna of the Krachi Traditional Council has urged the government to urgently address the issue and provide a sustainable solution to the power outages in the area.
Persistent power outages are severely impacting the livelihoods of residents and business owners in Kete-Krachi and surrounding areas in the Oti Region.
For over five years, residents of Kete-Krachi have struggled with an unstable electricity supply, hindering their daily activities.
Shop owners, restaurant operators, and other small businesses have been hit particularly hard by the power outages. Many have had to rely on generators or close their shops altogether.
The situation has become so dire that the Krachi Municipal Government Hospital has threatened to close down its mortuary and other departments if the power outages continue.
In an interview with Asaase News, residents and business owners shared how the power outages have pushed them into debt and limited their ability to generate revenue.
Nusienyo Adzoyi, a fruit seller, mentioned that the outages have significantly impacted her business, as most of her fruits require refrigeration.
A fashion designer shared his struggles, stating, “I have had to rely on my hand sewing machine, which is sometimes not fast enough to meet our daily targets. We used to sew 10 or more outfits a day, but now we can’t even sew five.”
Despite numerous complaints to NEDCo, the power outages persist, continuing to affect the town.
Frustrated by the lack of action, the youth in the area have organized demonstrations, demanding immediate steps to ensure a consistent power supply.
