Agya Koo Nimo, 94, Makes Heartfelt Plea for Final Performance with Shatta Wale (Watch Video)
In a moment that bridged generations of Ghanaian music, legendary highlife icon Agya Koo Nimo made an emotional appeal to dancehall star Shatta Wale for a joint performance, one he hopes will happen before his final curtain call.
The poignant exchange unfolded during an interview with broadcaster Kafui Dey, shared on X. While reflecting on the current state of Ghanaian music and his deep admiration for the younger generation, Agya Koo Nimo spoke passionately about Shatta Wale’s artistry.
Touched by his words, Kafui Dey surprised the veteran musician by placing a live phone call to the “On God” hitmaker. What followed was a touching dialogue that captured the respect and admiration shared between two icons of different eras.
“Hello Shatta, my name is Koo Nimo. I want to do one show with you before I die. I am 94. I want to see you in person, so I am happy to have the opportunity to talk to you. Try to visit me one day,” the nonagenarian said with sincerity.
Despite being in a wheelchair, Koo Nimo’s spirit and appreciation for Ghanaian music remain undiminished. He took a moment to express his love for Shatta Wale’s music and legacy.
“I am in a wheelchair and can’t walk, but there is something you should know. I love you and I love everything you do. May God bless you,” he added.
Shatta Wale, clearly moved, responded with warmth and reverence. He assured the highlife maestro that their meeting would happen soon and that he deeply respects the path Koo Nimo paved for musicians like him.
“God bless you. It has been my dream to always meet you. Since you have called me, I will make time and visit you.”
“May God bless you for giving me this opportunity to be a great musician in Ghana, and thank you very much. I have been telling people about the legacy you have left, and I respect that so much. This call will definitely make me come and see you,” Shatta Wale responded.
