Here’s why Sarkodie has sued Ecobank

Sarkodie

Ghanaian rap icon Sarkodie, legally known as Michael Owusu Addo, has launched a lawsuit against Ecobank Ghana Limited, accusing the bank of misusing his image without consent.

The legal action, detailed in a court document currently circulating online, was filed at the Commercial Division of the High Court in Accra.

Sarkodie contends that Ecobank featured a lookalike in an advertisement without seeking his approval, an infringement, he says, of his intellectual property rights.

The famous Ghanaian rapper argues that the unauthorized use of his likeness has harmed his reputation and resulted in financial losses.

He is seeking general damages, a permanent injunction to stop further use of the image, and a court directive requiring the bank to take down all related promotional content across print and digital platforms.

Ecobank has yet to publicly respond to the lawsuit.
