The family of Ghana’s beloved highlife icon, Charles Kwadwo Fosu, known to the world as Daddy Lumba, has officially announced the date and venues for both his one-week observation and final funeral rites.
At a press briefing led by the Abusuapanyin of the Ekuona Royal Family of Nsuta, it was confirmed that the one-week remembrance ceremony will be held in Accra on Saturday, August 30, 2025. The final funeral will then follow in Kumasi, the Ashanti regional capital.
According to the family head, this decision was shaped by a solemn audience with the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, who was formally informed of Daddy Lumba’s death.
“When we officially informed the Asantehene of the passing of Daddy Lumba, he reminded us that Daddy Lumba is a royal,” the family head stated.
He explained that the Asantehene’s words guided them to plan the one-week observation in Accra, to accommodate fans and sympathizers, while reserving the funeral proper for Kumasi, where the late artist’s body will be presented to the Asantehene as royal tradition requires.
In keeping with customary protocols, the family further disclosed intentions to visit the Ga Mantse in Accra to inform him officially about Daddy Lumba’s passing and outline the funeral schedule, out of respect and tradition.
Daddy Lumba passed away on July 26, 2025, after a brief illness, at age 60, leaving behind a monumental legacy that continues to draw tributes from across Ghana and beyond.
