Abronye DC Granted GH¢50,000 Bail After Arrest Over “Offensive Conduct”

Abronye DC granted bail

The Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, has been granted bail set at GH¢50,000 with one surety, without justification.

His lawyer, Daniel Mantey Addo, reportedly said Abronye’s health had worsened while in custody, adding that the bail decision offered him some relief. The legal team is working to satisfy the bail conditions to secure his immediate release, Myjoyonline reported.

Abronye was arrested on September 8, 2025, on charges of “offensive conduct conducive to a breach of public peace.” According to the police, his detention stemmed from public remarks that included allegations directed at the Inspector General of Police and the governing party, comments authorities described as potentially inflammatory.

Before his arrest, Abronye had already sought political asylum in eight countries, among them Côte d’Ivoire, the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Canada, Spain, and Germany. In his applications, he cited threats to his life, political harassment, and the alleged abuse of state security powers under the current administration.
