“I Never Shared Any Invitation” – Roman Fada Breaks Silence on Daddy Lumba Funeral Scandal

Philip Kwabena Agyeman Appiah-Kubi, well-known as Roman Fada, has pushed back against accusations from Daddy Lumba’s family, describing claims that he distributed funeral invitations as entirely untrue.

The longtime manager of the celebrated musician, in an interview with Kofi Adoma Nwanwani, said the allegations made by Mrs. Akosua Serwah Fosuh, Lumba’s wife, and her sister, Ms. Ernestina Brempomaa Fosuh, were “false and laughable.” He maintained that his visit to Kumasi was unrelated to any funeral activities.

“I went to Opambour when I travelled to Kumasi. I was there to make arrangements for the one-year anniversary of Akua Donkor,” he explained. “You know I started my radio journey at Radio Mercury before working with Opambour, so he is like everything to me. I visit him whenever I’m in Kumasi. After my visit, he asked about Daddy Lumba’s funeral, and I told him the family says December 6, that’s all I said.”

Roman Fada said the conversation was brief and innocent, insisting that Prophet Opambour only promised to pray before deciding whether to attend. “We even joked about Ghana Freedom Party coming to power in 2028,” he recounted. “He prayed for me, and that was all. People are now claiming I’ve been giving out Lumba’s funeral invitations, that’s not true.”

He emphasized that, as an Asante who respects tradition, he would never take such actions without the approval of the family or the official committee. “We all know the matter is in court and also before the traditional authorities. Who am I to share invitations when not even the abusuapanyin nor the funeral committee has printed any?” he asked. “If anyone claims I have given them an invitation, they should come forward.”

Addressing rumors of tension between him and the late musician, Roman Fada insisted there was none. “I had no issue with Daddy Lumba before he passed on. He loved me like a son, and I still respect him even though he is no more,” he said. “It’s laughable when I see the speculations on social media because none of them is true. Both Lumba and I knew we had no problems, the love we had for each other was real.”

He recalled moments that underscored the trust between them. “When President Mahama was organizing a program for senior citizens, the invitation came through me and I gave it to Papa. He even asked me what to wear, and I told him a suit would do. When did he ever sack me?” he said. “He even asked me to complete a contractual deal that actor Wayoosi brought before he died.”

His response follows a public statement issued by the Fosuh family on November 6, 2025, in which they accused him of spreading false information and acting without authority. The family stated that Roman Fada “has no legal, moral, or traditional authority” to speak for the late musician and warned that any further misrepresentation would trigger legal action.

The controversy adds another layer of tension to ongoing preparations for Daddy Lumba’s final rites. The Highlife legend, born Charles Kwadwo Fosuh, passed away on July 26, 2025. Although December 6 has been announced as the funeral date, the decision remains under judicial review.

Despite the dispute, Roman Fada maintains that he has done nothing wrong and continues to honour the memory of the man he served for years.
