IGP Promotes 35 Officers for Key Role in Cracking Adabraka Gold Robbery

Ghana Police promote 35 officers for professionalism and teamwork in the arrest of suspects behind the 2024 Adabraka gold robbery.

Thirty-five police officers have received promotions following their role in cracking the high-profile Adabraka gold robbery case, a move the Ghana Police Service says reflects its commitment to rewarding merit and professionalism.

The promotions were approved on Thursday, January 15, by the Inspector General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, in recognition of the officers’ conduct during investigations that led to the arrest of suspects linked to the daylight robbery at a jewellery shop in Accra in November 2024.

According to police authorities, the officers distinguished themselves through discipline, teamwork and operational efficiency as they worked to track down those involved in the incident, which drew national attention because of its bold execution in a busy commercial area.

Mr Yohuno, joined by members of the Police Management Board, congratulated the officers and reminded them that their new ranks come with heightened expectations. He urged them to approach their expanded responsibilities with integrity, leadership and a strong sense of accountability.

He further encouraged the officers to remain committed to serving the country with diligence and professionalism.

In a statement, the Ghana Police Service said the promotions underscore its broader effort to motivate personnel, strengthen morale within the service and reinforce standards that support effective policing nationwide.

The Adabraka robbery occurred on Saturday, November 2, 2024, when armed attackers struck in the morning near the Adabraka Market in Accra. Four masked men wielding firearms reportedly targeted a man seated in a red Toyota Corolla parked close to the busy market area.

Witnesses said the assailants approached the vehicle with guns raised and fired multiple shots into the air, triggering panic as traders and pedestrians fled the scene.
