Ghanaian hip life and rap star Kwesi Arthur is now facing a formal legal battle with his former record label, Ground Up Chale Ltd, as tensions between both sides spill from social media into the courtroom.
Court papers that have surfaced online indicate that the lawsuit was filed at the High Court of Justice in Accra under the Superior Court of Judicature. The writ of summons, dated January 27, 2026, lists Ground Up Chale Ltd and its chief executive, Glen Boateng, as the Plaintiffs, with the musician, born Emmanuel Danso Arthur, named as the Defendant.
The document directs Kwesi Arthur to enter an appearance within eight days of being served. It further cautions that failure to comply could allow the court to proceed and deliver judgment in his absence, without any additional notice.
While the specific reliefs being sought are not detailed in the copy of the writ circulating online, the lawsuit follows a highly publicised breakdown in relations between the artist and his former management. In recent social media posts, Kwesi Arthur accused the label of mistreatment, financial exploitation and attempts to maintain control over his image and music catalogue after their working relationship had ended.
Ground Up Chale and Glen Boateng have publicly rejected those claims, maintaining that their actions were guided by the terms of existing contracts. They have also described some of the accusations as false and harmful to their reputation.
