I Don’t Write Songs Before Entering the Studio – Lasmid Reveals

Lasmid

There are no notebooks or prewritten lines waiting for Lasmid when he steps into a studio. Everything begins with sound, not words.

In an interview on Hitz FM, the Ghanaian artiste shared that preparation gives way to instinct once the instrumental starts playing. Rather than scripting lyrics ahead of time, he allows the rhythm to guide him, trusting melodies to appear first before any words are formed.

Lasmid explained that the process unfolds almost immediately, with the beat setting the mood and the melody shaping the song’s direction. For him, staying in that moment keeps the emotion honest and unforced.

“One thing about me is I don’t write before entering the studio. Whenever I hear the beat, the melody starts flowing. I’m a melodist and the lyrics always come after the melody,” he said.

He noted that what happens in the studio is not only personal but also affects everyone around him. Watching a song come together in real time, he said, has a calming effect that listeners and observers can sense.

“My recording session is a therapy to somebody. You will actually feel it. I listen to the beat and that’s when I start creating,” Lasmid revealed.
