‘It’s Not a Shame at All’ – Shatta Wale Defends Stonebwoy Over Covered Sections at Wembley

Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy

A debate over curtains reportedly used to conceal sections of the OVO Arena Wembley during Stonebwoy’s BhimFest concert has drawn a response from his longtime dancehall rival, Shatta Wale.

The concert, held recently in the United Kingdom, saw Stonebwoy perform at the 12,500-capacity London venue as part of his highly anticipated international show.

While images and videos from the event circulated widely online, attention soon shifted to footage appearing to show curtains covering some sections of the arena. Some social media users interpreted the setup as an attempt to hide empty seats and questioned whether the concert had actually filled the venue.

Shatta Wale, however, does not appear to see the issue as a problem.

Speaking during a TikTok live session, the ‘Taking Over’ hitmaker said an artiste has the right to configure a venue according to the size of the audience expected at a show.

For Shatta Wale, covering parts of a large arena does not necessarily amount to a failure, particularly when an artiste is seeking to create a certain image around an international concert.

“It’s not a shame at all. Maybe you want to use the venue to create a profile for yourself. Do you understand me? I can also decide to hold a show at the O2 and invite you to come and sit in one chair. They can put curtains around the place and set up one table. I’ll perform, sweat on stage, and later write ‘sold out.’

“It’s not that Stonebwoy has done anything wrong. He understood his size and arranged the venue in a way that suited him, and that’s exactly what he has done,” he said.

His comments are particularly notable because of the longstanding rivalry between the two leading Ghanaian dancehall artistes.

The pair have spent years at the center of debates over their music, achievements, international reach and fan bases, making Shatta Wale’s decision to defend Stonebwoy over the Wembley controversy noteworthy.

Rather than criticizing the use of curtains, Shatta Wale focused on the strategy behind the arrangement. His argument was that an artiste staging a concert in a large international arena can adjust the configuration to create a more appropriate setting instead of leaving visibly empty sections.

The controversy surrounding the curtains has nevertheless added another layer to the conversation about Ghanaian artistes taking their concerts to major international venues.

Below is a video his remarks.
