A luxury holiday in Thailand ended in tragedy for British-Nigerian businessman and social media influencer Igho “Tiny” Ubiribo, who died after suffering a fatal pulmonary embolism following a penis enlargement procedure.
The 43-year-old, according to TMZ, underwent the cosmetic treatment at an unnamed clinic in Thailand during a trip with his wife, Danielle Simba Allen, in March. An inquest at Inner West London Coroners’ Court heard that 40 milliliters of hyaluronic acid and lidocaine had been injected into his penis.
Igho, also known online as Denisi or Ego, was staying with Danielle at a Marriott hotel in Bangkok when the procedure took place. The couple later went for a massage, but Igho began complaining of chest pain and collapsed twice.
An ambulance took him to Sukhumvit Hospital, where he was initially conscious enough to respond to questions. Danielle informed doctors that he had recently received filler injections. However, Igho lost consciousness before doctors could carry out a recommended CT scan.
Medical staff subsequently determined that he had suffered a pulmonary embolism, a potentially fatal condition in which a blood clot blocks blood flow to the lungs. He was moved to intensive care, where doctors performed CPR for more than 100 minutes.
Igho died in the early hours of March 6.
A postmortem examination carried out in the United Kingdom later found cellular material in his lungs that matched the hyaluronic acid used in the cosmetic injection.
At the inquest, Coroner Jean Harkin concluded that Igho died from a pulmonary embolism caused by the cosmetic procedure.
The businessman had built a sizeable following online, with about 185,000 followers on Instagram, where he was known for showcasing an extravagant lifestyle.
His reported property holdings included a $1.1 million home in Los Angeles’ Crenshaw neighborhood and a $600,000 apartment in London.
Igho and Danielle, a fashion designer and socialite, married in Zimbabwe in 2022 in a ceremony reportedly costing $473,000.
His funeral in London also attracted significant attention. Igho was laid to rest in a gold coffin reportedly valued at more than $745,000. Among those who attended were Nigerian music star Davido and Celebrity Barman Cubana Chief Priest.
Penis fillers made with hyaluronic acid can cost as much as $9,000 and generally last between six and nine months. However, British urology experts have warned that the procedure can carry serious and potentially devastating complications.
Igho was 43.
