Ghanaian artiste Fameye has opened up about his push to break into the top category at this year’s Telecel Ghana Music Awards, admitting he personally filed for consideration but is taking the outcome in stride.
Speaking on TV3, the ‘Praise’ singer said he made a deliberate attempt to secure a spot among the Artiste of the Year nominees. In his view, the level of work he put in over the past year placed him in the same bracket as those who made the final cut.
“I filed for it. I was looking for a win or at least a nomination. I felt that the work they did to be able to get onto the list, I also worked that hard. But I’m not hurt that I wasn’t nominated,” he said.
Rather than dwell on the snub, Fameye shifted attention to those who did earn nominations, singling out Wendy Shay for special mention. He praised her consistency and resilience, noting her ability to hold her own in a competitive, male-dominated space.
“Wendy Shay has done well and worked very hard. I have been on shows with her. She’s been going toe-to-toe with the men in this industry for a long time. She has worked incredibly hard and absolutely deserves an Artist of the Year nomination,” he said.
Fameye wrapped up by acknowledging the broader field, maintaining that the final shortlist reflected merit across the board. “All those who were nominated deserve it.”
