Shatta Wale says music is no longer the centre of his professional life, revealing that he stepped away from active recording and performance three years ago to focus on business ventures.
The popular dancehall artiste made the disclosure during a conversation with Bola Ray before departing for the United Kingdom for ShattaFest UK. Beyond discussing his career shift, he also spoke about his financial standing, his advocacy for Ghanaian musicians, and whether politics could feature in his future plans.
Addressing perceptions about his outspoken nature on social media, Shatta Wale insisted his criticism of the industry is driven by concern for fellow artistes rather than personal frustrations.
“Sometimes people see me shouting on social media and they think I am frustrated. No. I have money but I don’t want to see my colleagues or the upcoming artistes suffer,” he said.
According to him, his efforts to push for better conditions within Ghana’s music industry stem from a deeper sense of purpose.
“I think it’s a godly fight. Thank God it wasn’t a violent one but a verbal way just to echo my thoughts out,” he said.
When the conversation turned to his finances and whether he had reached a point where retirement was possible, the musician disclosed that he had already made that decision years ago.
“I retired from music three years ago. I’m doing business now,” he said.
He noted that his attention is currently on growing a number of business interests, including Hotwav, Shaxi and Tuesday Market.
Shatta Wale also left the door open to a possible political career, saying he would only take that path if the timing and public support aligned.
“All in time. When it’s time and the people want me to pursue that, why not? I believe I’ve done a lot for the country and Ghanaians have seen how patriotic I am. I want to see every Ghanaian win,” he said.
The entertainer further stated that his commitment to national development has always extended beyond the stage.
“I always feel I have a role to play in the country,” Shatta Wale clarified.
