“I Love Brother Sammy a Lot” – Okese 1 Reveals Favourite Gospel Musician

Ghanaian rapper Okese 1 has revealed an unexpected side of his musical taste, naming gospel musician Brother Sammy as his favourite act in Ghana.

The “Don’t Come Too Close” hitmaker made the revelation during an interview on YFM, where he singled out Brother Sammy’s “Mebo Wodin” as a song he particularly enjoys.

“I love Brother Sammy a lot. I like the song ‘Mebo Wodin’ and he is also a very good friend of mine,” he noted.

Beyond his current music career, Okese 1 also reflected on his days as a student at Kumasi Anglican Senior High School (KASS), describing the experience as one that gave him a strong sense of confidence.

He disclosed that he was the top-performing Business student at the school, although music and entertainment were not part of his priorities at the time. His attention was firmly on his education.

“It was great, I felt like a superstar over there. I was actually the best Business student in KASS,” he said.

According to the rapper, his relationship with music took a different turn after he entered the University of Cape Coast (UCC). It was during his tertiary education that he began developing a serious interest in music and started building his career independently.

Okese 1 explained that he did not rely on a group or boys’ clique to establish himself in the music space, choosing instead to pursue his ambitions on his own.

The rapper also described himself as an artiste who is comfortable moving across different musical styles. Rather than confining himself to a particular genre, he said he is willing to experiment with any sound that appeals to him.

“I can do any type of music. As long as you give me the beat, and I like it, I will do something with it. I can do everything, even gospel,” he stated.

When asked about his favourite rapper, Okese 1 pointed to American hip-hop star Young Thug, highlighting the broad range of influences that continue to shape his musical identity.
