A stolen infant has been safely returned to Mamprobi Polyclinic in Accra after a rapid police intervention, with a female suspect now held for questioning.
The child was reportedly taken from the facility on Tuesday, February 18, in Mamprobi, located within the Ablekuma South constituency. The alarming incident prompted an immediate response from the Ghana Police Service, who launched a search operation after receiving reports from hospital officials and the baby’s family.
Authorities have not released the identity of the suspect as investigations continue to clarify how she accessed the child and the circumstances surrounding the abduction.
The successful recovery was aided by the Ablekuma South Member of Parliament, Alfred Okoe Vanderpuije, who coordinated efforts between the police, community members, and the child’s family. The MP personally accompanied officials to ensure the infant’s safe return to the clinic.
Upon the baby’s arrival, medical staff assessed the child’s condition. Doctors confirmed that the infant is currently under treatment and remains closely monitored, with health officials describing the baby as stable.
Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Agnes Naa Momo Lartey, visited the clinic following the recovery, according to Myjoyonline report. She expressed relief at the safe return and praised the police and everyone involved for their swift action.
