He Said He Would Kill Me and the Baby – Vicky Zugah Recalls Ex-Husband’s Threat During Pregnancy

Vicky Zugah

Vicky Zugah never imagined that a car ride could turn into a nightmare that threatened both her life and that of her unborn child. The Ghanaian actress recounted the harrowing experience, revealing how a relationship that promised love and care spiraled into violence.

Speaking at the launch of “Women of Valour 2026” on February 17, 2026, at the British High Commission residence, she described an incident during a trip from a funeral back to their hotel. Her then-husband was driving but wanted to smoke, so he asked her to take the wheel.

“Moving from the funeral grounds to the hotel, it was my car and he was driving. At a point, he wanted to smoke, so he asked me to take over because I was pregnant and he couldn’t smoke in the car. I started moving the car, and he asked me to go,” Vicky recalled.

Violence erupted as soon as they reached the hotel. “Immediately we got to the hotel, he started slapping me, saying I had left him. I said, ‘But you asked me to go.’ He replied, ‘How dare you? Or is it because it’s your car?’ Everyone at the hotel came to separate us.”

The abuse escalated beyond physical assault. Vicky revealed that her ex-partner threatened to end both her life and her unborn child’s, convinced that authorities in Ghana would not hold him accountable.

“That night, he told me he was going to kill me and kill the baby, and that nothing would happen because this is Ghana,” she stated.

The Women of Valour 2026 event, themed “The Pursuit of Fearlessness,” highlighted raw testimonies from survivors of abuse. Their stories are guiding this year’s advocacy focus, amplifying voices that demand protection, justice, and empowerment for women.
