Ghanaian actress Vicky Zugah has opened up about an unexpected pattern she has noticed since choosing a celibate lifestyle.
Speaking in a TikTok video, the actress revealed that her decision to remove sex from her relationships has been quietly reshaping her dating experiences. According to her, men who initially show interest tend to withdraw once they realise she is serious about keeping things non-sexual.
She explained that the shift began in December 2025, after a period of reflection on her past relationships and the kind of men she had been attracting.
“For somewhere December last year, I thought about my sexual relationships and I realised that I was attracting the same type of men. So I decided by myself, on my own, I was going to change the pattern by taking sex out of the table. So my subsequent relationships, I’ve been going on dates with men, I’ve been talking to potential partners, but I take sex out. Since December till today,” she said.
Since making that decision, she says she has interacted with about 10 men. Some progressed to in-person dates, while others remained virtual due to distance, particularly those living outside Ghana.
What stood out to her, she noted, was a recurring reaction. Many of the men did not take her stance seriously at first, assuming it was temporary or negotiable. But once it became clear that she meant it, their interest faded without explanation.
She believes this experience has helped her better understand people’s intentions, and she is urging other women to try the same approach if they want clarity in their relationships.
“Celibacy helps you to take your time to see beyond everything and filter out serious people. If you really want to see how many people approach you just because they want your body without any genuine intentions, try celibacy. In a world where people can live with just anybody, where sex is readily available all over the place, I mean, one of the cheapest things you can find today is sex,” Vicky Zugah advised.
