“My Dad Would Open the Bible and Read Quotations Before Beating You” – Stonebwoy Recounts

Stonebwoy and his father Noble Satekla

Stonebwoy has opened up about the tough upbringing that shaped his character, pointing to his father’s firm hand as a defining influence in his early years.

Speaking in an interview with broadcaster Kafui Dey, which circulated on social media on April 10, 2026, the dancehall artiste described his father, Noble Satekla, as a man whose approach to discipline left little room for compromise.

He recalled how his father, who served as head of security at their church, maintained strict control during retreats held at Prampram, ensuring that no one slipped away unnoticed.

“My dad was a key figure in the church, so whenever we went for retreats, he would be the head of security at Prampram. Imagine seeing your dad caning other people. Sometimes, you would want to sneak out and go to town because the retreat grounds were in a restricted bush area.

“You might think of escaping through one side, but then you would see your dad beating someone, and you would quickly change your mind,” he said.

Beyond enforcing order at church events, Stonebwoy said discipline at home followed a similar pattern, often beginning with scripture before punishment was handed out.

He added that his father’s reputation extended beyond their household, with neighbours bringing their own children to him whenever they needed correction.

Looking back, the musician said the strict environment, though intense at the time, played a crucial role in shaping his outlook on life.

“My dad would open the Bible and read quotations before beating you. And now, growing up, I appreciate him for some of those things… It takes a certain kind of heart. You could be sitting there as his child, watching him go into ‘beast mode’ with someone else, but before that, he would explain why he had to discipline the person.

“In that moment, there was no iota of pity. The pity is there, but they also weigh it against the possibility of you ending up in prison or in a bad situation. I think that thought is what gives them the strength to go through with that ‘beast mode,’” Stonebwoy added.
