Berekum Chelsea Forward Dominic Frimpong Shot Dead as Armed Robbers Ambush Team Bus in Ghana

Shock and grief have gripped Berekum Chelsea after one of their players was killed in a brazen roadside attack on the team’s bus.

The club has confirmed that forward Dominic Frimpong died after armed robbers struck on Sunday evening while the squad was travelling back from a Ghana Premier League fixture. Chelsea had just suffered a 1-0 defeat to FC Samartex at DUN’s Park before the journey turned deadly.

According to club officials, the ambush happened along the Bibiani–Goaso road near Ahyiresu. Armed men reportedly mounted a blockade, forcing the bus to a halt. Players and staff fled into nearby bushes in a desperate attempt to escape.

In the confusion, multiple members of the team were injured. Frimpong, aged 20, sustained a gunshot wound to the head. He was taken to Bibiani Government Hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Police have launched a manhunt for the attackers, who remain at large. Authorities are also working to account for all players and officials after some were separated during the incident.

Frimpong had only recently joined Berekum Chelsea on loan from Aduana FC in January, with the deal expected to run through the 2025/26 season. Before his death, he had made 13 appearances and scored twice.
