Okyeame Kwame Reveals He Was Once Offered Alan Kyerematen’s Running Mate Slot

Okyeame Kwame has shared an unexpected encounter in which he was once considered for high office politics, revealing that Alan Kyerematen’s camp had approached him to serve as a running mate.

Speaking on Okay FM, the popular Ghanaian artiste said the offer came directly from the camp of the “Movement for Change” flagbearer, and it caught him off guard.

According to him, the proposal was flattering but ultimately too heavy a responsibility to accept.

“I take my hat off for the honourable. No one has said anything that has touched me as much as he did. I didn’t believe that I, Kwame Apau, was worthy of Alan Kyerematen’s running mate. And the beautiful aspect is how I qualified for all ten requirements needed to take that position. When I checked, I indeed was the only person who qualified,” he said.

The “Faithful” hitmaker explained that the selection checklist he was shown included academic qualifications such as a master’s degree or legal training, a clean public record, being above 40 years old, marriage and fatherhood, business experience, philanthropy, popularity, likability, and a strong social media following exceeding one million.

After reviewing the list, he concluded that he met every condition, something he admitted made the proposal feel even more personal and significant.

Despite that, Okyeame Kwame said he chose not to proceed after weighing the implications with his close circle.

“I went to think about it with my family. My son was 14, my daughter was 12, my wife is a Jehovah’s Witness, my mother was scared, and I was also personally scared. I also consulted some stakeholders and took their advice. Then I found a polite way to let him know I couldn’t accept his offer,” he explained.

He added that the political approach was not an isolated case, noting that he has previously been contacted by political actors who even offered financial incentives for endorsements.

Still, he said he has consistently declined such proposals, explaining that he prefers to stay away from the tensions and reputational risks that often come with political involvement.
