After spending months in police custody over an extradition case linked to alleged romance fraud in the United States, Frederick Kumi, otherwise known as Abu Trica, has regained his freedom after meeting the conditions attached to his bail.
Papa Kofi Essel, a lawyer on Abu Trica’s legal team, confirmed the development in an interview with Citi News on Friday, May 15.
The Accra High Court had earlier admitted Abu Trica to bail in the sum of GH¢30 million with two justified sureties.
According to Mr Essel, his client successfully satisfied the court’s requirements and was released the same day. He described the outcome as a positive sign for Ghana’s justice system and respect for citizens’ constitutional rights.
“He was released today, May 15. Ghana is advancing in recognising the fundamental human rights of citizens, and the rule of law is working,” he said.
Abu Trica was arrested in December 2025 and remained in police custody after the United States requested his extradition over allegations of romance fraud.
