‘We’re Not Getting Ahead of Ourselves’ – Semenyo Sends Ghana Warning After Panama Victory

Antoine Semenyo in Ghana vs Panama World Cup 2026 match

Antoine Semenyo has urged Ghana to keep their feet on the ground after the Black Stars snatched a dramatic victory against Panama to begin their 2026 FIFA World Cup journey.

A match that seemed headed for a stalemate at BMO Field in Toronto was decided in the closing moments when Caleb Yirenkyi found the breakthrough deep into stoppage time, sealing a 1-0 triumph for Ghana in their opening Group L fixture.

The late winner handed Carlos Queiroz’s men a valuable three points and an early advantage in the group, but Semenyo believes the result should serve as a foundation rather than a reason for complacency.

Semenyo, who earned the Man of the Match award for his performance, said the squad is already looking ahead to its next assignment and understands the scale of the challenge awaiting them.

Attention now turns to a highly anticipated showdown with England, a contest Semenyo expects to test Ghana in every department.

“We know it’s going to be a tough game,” Antoine Semenyo stated when questioned about the Three Lions.

“We are not going to be ahead of ourselves. We want to win that game, but we know it’s not going to be easy,” he further stated.
